Connecting to Singtel Broadband on Mobile on Huawei E220 with OSX
Posted by: Kenneth in Geekiness, tags: 3.5g, bb on mobile, huaweie220, internet, singtelBeen waiting for a useful 3.5G mobile broadband plan for myself. For the past 7 mths or so, i have been on a $75 unlimited 2.5G plan. Studying into my out of home internet activity, i find myself not fully utilising the unlimited despite having the freedom. Singtel had a huge fair at civic plaza, drawing people to their mio offerings. They also had a new offering for their Broadband on Mobile. A 2 month free subscription, free data sim card, free usb modem/$100 off a mobile phone.
To cut the long story short, i am pretty appalled by the support they gave to mac users. For my other fellow mac evangelists/zealots, here’s how to connect your “new” huawei E220 usb modem to your mac (leopard only). If you notice the package of the modem is a little confusing, a installation cd is present but it only contains the mac installer while the instructions only talked about windows installation. You will realise that the windows installation is stored in the usb modem. Simple for windows people.
For the mac people, slot in the install cd and run the pkg file. That should install your modem drivers. Open System Preferences > Network. You should see a Huawei modem settings in your network preference. All you need to do click on advanced and follow the second screenshot. After that is done, use the settins on the first screenshot. Password is “guest” btw.

That should do it. Hope you guys manage to get surfing away…
